Lessons for Beginners

Setting the stage for fun and learning:

Beginner riders can expect a supportive, patient and friendly environment with plenty of one on one attention and clear, easy to understand instructions. Rest assured that I love starting beginners! You can also relax and know that I will provide a safe and secure environment for you to enjoy your horse time in.

For first time riders:

What to expect at your first lesson:

The first lesson we spend plenty of time getting to know the horse. Learn to halter, lead, tie, groom, and saddle your horse. I am with you every step of the way! We will go at your speed, and you are not expected to remember everything we learn after just one lesson. I’ll repeat everything until you are a pro!

Working on the lunge line

First time riders and/or beginners work on the lunge line first. A lunge line is a long rope that allows me to “hold” the horse while you hold the reins and do the steering; I am there for back-up if needed. This allows you to relax and know that I have the horse, so you can focus on your body and our conversation. Everything is explained in a step by step process and we move at your speed.

In subsequent lessons we continue working with the ground work of leading, grooming and saddling, as well as learning to bridle. You will graduate to riding off the lunge line at your own pace, which varies from person to person depending on their comfort level and skill set.

Students should invest in a comfortable and well-fitting helmet, and paddock boots that have a low heel. Jeans are discouraged since they ride up and rub saddle sores on your legs.
